This lone hawthorn tree on a limestone pavement in the Yorkshire Dales is a popular spot for picnickers and photographers. Perched high on the hills above Settle, it gives great views of Pen y Ghent, one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks. If you can summon the energy, the views from the summit of Whernside are well worth the effort. You can see huge areas of the Yorkshire Dales as well as the sea near Morecambe.
