Essential Mountain Safety Course – Open Course
April 12 @ 8:00 am - April 13 @ 5:00 pm
£116
Everyone is heading for the hills and mountains these days, which is great. But a ‘National Park’ with mountains isn’t the same as a walk in the local park. That’s all too evident from the number and nature of Mountain rescue call-outs – including fatalities.
Don’t get caught out because you simply didn’t know or understand what you were getting yourself and your friends/family into.
This spring I’m giving priority to a number of weekend Essential Mountain Safety Courses. These courses will take place in the Lake District and Eryri (Snowdonia). Each mountain safety course is two-days long and will include a guided mountain walk packed with learning to make you independent – but safe.
What does the course cover?
- Planning a day’s route in the mountains
- Accessing weather forecasts and understanding the effects of the weather
- Clothing and equipment
- Navigation using apps – pros, cons, and understanding what you are getting from various apps
- Navigation using map and compass
- Navigation using dedicated GPS unit
- Movement on different terrain
- Assessing risks and making decisions
- Emergency procedures and emergency equipment
What does it cost?
The cost is only £116 per person for the two days, based on a full course of six people (Ratio 1:6 instructor:student).
