Guided Walks and Mountain Expeditions

Introduction

We regularly run guided walks in the the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District, Eryri (Snowdonia) and the highlands of Scotland as well as leading international expeditions abroad.

Dates

In general, we do not schedule these in advance, as we like to make each one bespoke. This is how we adapt them to cater for different levels of ability and experience. However, we do have a limited number of  ‘open’ courses which are available to book on. These are shown in our events calendar.

Purpose

Sometimes these guided walks may be challenging day walks, requiring sound navigational skills and knowledge of the terrain. On these occasions, it pays dividends to have an experienced guide. At other times, these could be multi-day trips in some of the more remote mountain regions of the UK – perhaps multi-day trips based in a hostel or similar accommodation, or perhaps wild camping.

Recent expeditions

We have recently led international expeditions for other well-known adventure travel firms. These have included Mera Peak & Island Peak in Nepal, and Kilimanjaro (by both the Rongai and Machame Routes).

Instructor:client ratio

The maximum ratio for these courses is 1:12 maximum, depending on exact activities. However, a more typical ratio is around 1:6.

Course Details

Who is the course for?

Guided walks are for anyone and everyone. You may be a complete novice to the outdoors; or you may have experience but want to take on a walk that will push your own boundaries; or you may be organising something for a group of friends and know that a guide will take the pressure off you.

Where is it held?

Our most popular guided walks are in the Lake District, Eryri (Snowdonia), the Yorkshire Dales and in Scotland, for example GlencoeBen Nevis and the Cairngorms.

How long is the course?

Each guided walk is a minimum of one day in duration, but is often booked as a two-day weekend. We can also guide mountain walks for longer periods using the accommodation of your choice (indoors or outdoors) – for example the 10 highest mountains in the UK (all in Scotland) over 5 days.

What does the course cover?

  • Help and advice with planning the trip
  • Recommendations for routes and accommodation options
  • Preparatory information, such as recommended kit lists
  • Mountain guiding throughout the trip

What equipment is included?

You will need to provide: warm clothing including a waterproof jacket; walking boots; and a rucksack of about 30 litres.

We will discuss an appropriate kit list when you book.

What does it cost?

Mountain walks (Eryri (Snowdonia), Lake District and Scottish Highlands):-
