DESCRIPTION:Everyone is heading for the hills and mountains these days\, which is great. But a ‘National Park’ with mountains isn’t the same as a walk in the local park. That’s all too evident from the number and nature of Mountain rescue call-outs – including fatalities. \nDon’t get caught out because you simply didn’t know or understand what you were getting yourself and your friends/family into. \nThis spring I’m giving priority to a number of weekend Essential Mountain Safety Courses. These courses will take place in the Lake District and Eryri (Snowdonia). Each mountain safety course is two-days long and will include a guided mountain walk packed with learning to make you independent  – but safe. \nWhat does the course cover?\n\nPlanning a day’s route in the mountains\nAccessing weather forecasts and understanding the effects of the weather\nClothing and equipment\nNavigation using apps – pros\, cons\, and understanding what you are getting from various apps\nNavigation using map and compass\nNavigation using dedicated GPS unit\nMovement on different terrain\nAssessing risks and making decisions\nEmergency procedures and emergency equipment\n\nWhat does it cost? \nThe cost is only £116 per person for the two days\, based on a full course of six people (Ratio 1:6 instructor:student).
