Home » Ben Nevis in winter from the Mamores
This stunning view of Ben Nevis in winter is the view from the Mamores range, on the southern side of Glen Nevis. On this particular day, we were doing some relatively easy winter walking/mountaineering. We parked in Glen Nevis and ascended the north ridge of Stob Ban. This is a short scramble in summer but is a little more serious in winter and is a Grade I winter route. From Stob Ban, we circled around to Sgurr an Iubhair and then traversed the exciting Devil’s Ridge to reach Sgurr a’Mhaim. We got this view of the southern flanks of Ben Nevis, looking right into Coire Eoghainn, on the descent from Sgurr a’Mhaim. It wasn’t just the view of the Ben that caught my eye – the sastrugi in the foreground almost appear to be small mountains themselves.
