Cow and Calf Rocks – my local beauty spot on Ilkley Moor. During the Covid-19 lockdown, we have all been obliged to stay at home, stay local, not travel and so on. This has meant that many of us will have been exploring what is on our doorstep and seeing it through new eyes. I feel extremely fortunate to live in such a beautiful area and have extensive moors and crags right in “my own backyard”. Now, I’m no stranger to the Cow and Calf Rocks – I’ve been up there many a time and have climbed regularly in the quarry and Rocky Valley. So I’m well aware how great the rocks look – Ilkley’s iconic landmark.
However, I’d never actually taken the opportunity to get up early and go and watch sunrise from the rocks until Covid-19. The sun rises way across the other side of Wharfedale and once it is up, its very first rays strike the main face of the Cow and bathe it in a warm, golden light. Stunning.
This is the area in which I run a number of my courses, including navigation courses and rock climbing courses. If you’d like to know more about any of these then just get in touch.
