Clothing and Equipment for Rock Climbing
Climbing shoes
Base-layer top (Synthetic or synthetic/wool blend. Never cotton – “cotton kills”)
Socks
Trousers (possibly light soft-shell), flexible enough to allow full range of movement
Fleece/insulation layer (x2 if weather is cold)
‘Belay jacket’ – warm, insulated jacket to fit over all other clothes (if weather is cold)
Walking boots/approach shoes/trainers
Hat (should fit under helmet)
Fleece buff or scarf
Warm gloves
Hard-shell waterproof jacket
Waterproof over-trousers
Climbing harness (if you already own one)
Climbing helmet (if you already own one)
Climbing hardware, including belay device (if you already own them)
Camera and case (optional)
Mobile phone and waterproof case (optional)
Head-torch plus spare batteries
Rucksack – probably 30-40 litres
Dry-bags for packing stuff in
Personal medication (and simple treatments, eg blister kit)
Thermos flask and/or hydration pack/water bottle
Lunch snacks
WAG Bag for toilet waste
Notebook & pen
