Scrambling An Teallach is one of the ‘big ticks‘ that any mountain walker, Munroist, or scrambler wants to do. It is located in the very far north of Scotland in Wester Ross. So, even the journey to reach An Teallach is not for the faint of heart.
An Teallach is a vast and complex mountain. It forms a loose trident shape and the whole massif is set back from any roads making it quite remote. With four ridges and ten separate summits, any traverse of the mountain is a big undertaking. It could be 8-10 hours in summer and potentially 12 in winter, depending on your speed. Two of the summits, Bidean a Glas Thuill (1062m) and Sgurr Fiona (1060m) are Munros. But the most dramatic summit is that of Lord Berkeley’s Seat, where you can sit and dangle your feet over a truly vertiginous drop.
One of our most popular trips is a four day trip to scramble the three great UK mainland ridges – An Teallach (Day 1), Liathach (Day 2) and the Aonach Eagach (Day 4). Day 3 is a travelling and rest day.
