Beginners’ Climbing Course in the Lake District
Rock climbing is not the black art that some people might think it is. Nor is it all down to thuggish upper body strength. It’s all about efficient, normal movement. On this introduction course we spend some time considering normal every-day movements that we all make. Then we see how to turn these into upwards motion – or climbing.
A beginners’ climbing course will cover everything that you might expect and plenty more besides. We talk about our legal rights of access and responsibilities, which is important both now and for the future of climbing. We look at guidebooks and how to use them so that you can identify your climb and get back down safely afterwards. Furthermore, we look at discuss a variety of climbing equipment and discuss the pros and cons, the costs and where to buy it from. Importantly, we also suggest where not to buy it from to keep you safe.
Almost all rock climbing involves the use of ropes for our own safety. On this course we will cover the essential knots that you need to know. Surprisingly enough, there are only a couple. You don’t need to be an expert boy scout/girl guide. More importantly, we teach you the contexts in which to use these knots as well as passing on numerous tips.
